More than 2 million human bengs have no access to basic humanitarian aid, food, medical care and clean water. United Nations have recently reported that that more than 1.8 million of Ogaden’s worst affected population was “effectively out of bounds of aid agencies” this news came as other agencies reported that nutritional studies revealed over 70% of the population is experiencing food insecurity.

It was stated in a recent press release from State Department of the United States that the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice will visit Addis Ababa on December 5 to tackle conflicts in the region. She will attend a meeting with the leaders of the Great Lakes countries.

On Oct. 3, 1993, a mob dragged the bodies of two U.S. soldiers through the streets of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The soldiers had been killed in an intense street battle that was later immortalized in the book Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden. But soon after the firefight, U.S. troops were withdrawn from Somalia, and other places--Afghanistan, Iraq--became known as locations where young American soldiers risked their lives.

Now that the gruesome details of the ethnic cleansing tactics being employed by the current autocracy in Addis Ababa are slowly coming out, it is not unexpected for the Ethiopian prime minister to come out swinging against the veracity of the genocidal stories trickling out of Ogaden with the Ogaden refugees. After all who expects a slayer, at the level of Mr. Meles Zenawi, to own up to the military indiscretions of his minions and militias in Ogaden.
