Information Ministry’s meeting on “Media Strategy vis-0-vis National Challenges” concludes

Asmara, 18 April 2008 - The meeting of the Ministry of Information held under the theme “Media Strategy vis-а-vis National Challenges” concluded today. The two-day meeting took note of the fact that skilled manpower is decisive in developing an advanced mass media, and that plans have been mapped out to reinforce endeavors made to bequeath to new youth members of the Ministry the skills already acquired in upgrading human resource capacity. Moreover, extensive briefings was presented to participants of the meeting regarding the introduction of modern technology as part of efforts involving substantial investment towards expanding the transmission of radio and TV programs inside the country and the world at large, and thereby further improve the quality of media production. It was disclosed that modern technology and digital photographic equipment have already been introduced in desktop publishing so as to improve the work of the print media. Assessing the accomplishments registered in endeavors to highlight the stance and outlook of the people and Government of Eritrea regarding different issue and has a positive impact at regional and global level, the meeting decided to accommodate criticisms and opinions of the audience, as well as properly handle suggestions and feedback on the part of the audience. Furthermore, participants of the meeting were appraised of the action program mapped out to foster cooperation with different countries and world media outlets, render efficient service to the public, encourage works of art and strengthen administrative efficiency, among other. Following in-depth discussion on action program charted by the various departments of the Ministry, the participants pledged to work diligently towards promoting the development of “advanced, credible, free, responsible and development-oriented media.”
