ImageI know I don’t have to put this in black and white for Eritreans and friends of Eritrea to appreciate this wonderful lady that Eritrea has to offer. The truth is there are many Eritrean women, beating some of our backward cultural odds that have excelled in just about everything their male counterparts do.

Be it in education or in the so-called male jobs and in the struggle for our hard won independence.

Many of these women, in addition to engaging the enemy in the only language he understands, they carried and cared for the most vulnerable part of our society, the thousands of babies most of whom were orphaned by the illegal and unjust war the consecutive Ethiopian regimes unleashed on us for almost half a century. Yes, many of our women were also maimed or martyred so that we, the living, can enjoy the fruits of their toil. I know I am speaking for all Eritreans when I declare my appreciation of their selfless deeds. Needles to say, the breath of fresh air that we Eritreans are breathing after the independence of our country would have been only in our imagination if these brave Eritrean women did not join their brethren in the field clinching whatever their hands can grab on and grab they did - the Kalashnikovs, M-46 (like the revolutionary song “ሚEትን ሰላሳን ሒዛ ቁድሳን” attests) and the good old በትሪ ሓቂ።

While many of ኣዋልድ ሃገረይ were busy engaging the enemy in the field, many of them were also fighting the same enemy and its propagandists and apologists in no less bravery than that shown by the ደቂ ሓራስ ነብሪ ኣብ ሜዳ. There are too many of them for me to recount and pay their much deserved tribute here in this short piece whose primary message was to recognize one of us in the Diaspora who has been spearheading in challenging head on to all and every enemy machinations to render them “Null and Void” without shooting a single bullet.

W/O Sophia Tesfamariam of the United States has been in the forefront defending her country and upholding high and clear what Eritrea stands for. This marvelous Eritrean lady has some superb talent in addressing the issues of the day. She mesmerizes her audience, friends and foe alike, to a point where they are left speechless.

This woman, like most of us, has some immediate responsibilities and household chores that need to be attended to. After all, she has some immediate family members she must take care of and most of us know what kind of burden that could be especially for a professional person. When one adds to that, her dedication and commitment to writing to defend our beautiful Eritrea and from enemies within and without, I believe one can quickly grasp the picture how daunting such exercise could be. Yet, Sophie has worked tirelessly and always comes up on top shining to expose just about every minion’s negative opinion of Eritrea and its people be it in the field of politics, economy and governance. She does that with true conviction, firmness and finesse. ኣገናE ጓል ዓደይ and thank you for making us proud and the envy of the doom and gloom wishers who keep on daydreaming of nothing but the destruction of Eritrea as an exemplary political entity.
