Image Asmara, 9 October 2007 - President Isaias Afwerki and the Libyan leader Brother Muammar Al-Khadafi held talks in Tripoli on bilateral, regional and international issues.

The talks that were held in the State Palace focused on peace and security in Africa in general and the situation in Somalia and Darfur in particular. The two leaders held discussions on the meeting regarding the Darfur peace process scheduled to take place on October 27 in Libya, as well as the efforts Eritrea is exerting to promote peace in Somalia.

Image Presidents Isaias and Muammar Al-Khadafi also exchanged views on the stance of the two countries in regards to regional and international agendas and agreed to further enhance relations between the two sisterly countries which continues to gain momentum from time to time.

The Libyan leader hosted a dinner banquet in honor of President Isaias Afwerki following the meeting that continued today for the second time, according to reports.

On arrival at the Tripoli International Airport yesterday, President Isaias was accorded a warm welcome by senior Libyan government officials headed by Dr. Al-Baqdad Al-Mahamoudi, the county’s Prime Minister. Also present at the welcoming ceremony were Libyan Foreign Minister Abdelrahman Shelgem, the Head of African Union Affairs, Ali Abduselam Al-Treiki, and the Secretary of CEN-SAD, Dr. Medeni Al-Azhari, as well as the Eritrean Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Abdalla Mussa, and members of the Eritrean Embassy.

It is to be recalled that President Isaias left for Tripoli yesterday on a two-day work visit at the invitation of the Libyan leader Brother Muammar Al-Khadafi.
