FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grand Rapids, MI, October 9, 2007- Members of the Eritrean-American community in Grand Rapids, MI went to the offices of  Michigan Senator’s Levin (D), and Stabenow (D), to deliver a petition signed by  all the community members. The petition was to urge the two to take action on the remarks made by the Assistant U.S. Secretary for African Affairs, Dr. Jendayi Frazier during her August 17, 2007 press conference.  Frazier unfairly attempted to enlist Eritrea in the “State sponsors of terrorism,” and went on to make insensitive remarks towards the Eritrean-American community, when she questioned their American nationalism, and went on to refer to them as “Eritreans living in our country.” The Eritrean-American community of Grand Rapids, MI is deeply affected by the statements and allegations made, and urge that their Senator’s take action and speak up on their behalf.
