Sudan: At a Crucial Stage that Requires Insight

The Naivasha Peace Agreement reached between the Sudanese Government and the SPLM was the first most significant step towards achieving comprehensive peace in the Sudan. Now at a time when both sides are exerting efforts towards the implementation of the peace agreement and gradually building mutual trust, it should not come as a surprise or shock should there arise slight misunderstandings along the process, because having differences in opinion is only a natural part of efforts aimed at lasting unity and accord. The Naivasha Agreement had laid the foundation for future peace agreements in other parts of the Sudan . Hence, both parties are duty bound to earnestly work towards its implementation through astutely and peacefully resolving their differences. This can only be achieved by giving priority to the people's interest, refraining from activities that could instigate conflicts, honoring the agreements in good faith and, most importantly, rebuffing any direct or indirect external interference, making sure that the case primarily remains in the hands of the Sudanese people. For prior positive developments to be maintained and for the Naivasha Agreement to succeed in brining lasting peace, a great deal of patience and wisdom, as well as earnest devotion to peace, is required from both parties. There is no other alternative to peace!
