ImageThe Eritrean people have been able to acquire a unique history of triumph because they had endured the unbearable and tackled the impossible. Now in the second chapter of their struggle -the nation building process- Eritrean citizens everywhere are exerting every effort to honor the trust of their martyrs and build a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Harmony and equality among all sectors of society, mutual respect and care for each other, love of work, and honesty are some of the characteristic features of the people of Eritrea. Now at a time when they are striving to achieve admiration in their nation building process, the Eritrean people should always keep both individual and collective values, which have been and still are the secret to their success, intact. Moreover, the trust of our martyrs obliges every Eritrean citizen to swiftly uproot any manifestation of moral degeneration which threatens to defile the afore-mentioned exemplary Eritrean values, because every inch of Eritrean territory is sacred ground, carved with the blood of our beloved martyrs. Putting the interests of the people and country above theirs and denying themselves the barest of comforts for the sake of their people, our martyrs sacrificed their very lives to bequeath us the proud nation of Eritrea. Thus, anyone who tampers with the sanctity of Eritrean soil and seeks to undermine the value of the Eritrean martyrs' sacrifice cannot and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Corruption is one of the vices that pollutes and weakens any given society. It is a crippling and dangerous kind of immorality that not only completely destroys the culture, values and morality of a given society but also violates the economic and social rights of the people, plunging them into a dismal state of existence. Hence, if Eritrea is to become a great nation commensurate of the huge sacrifices made for its independence, and if its people are to enjoy a comfortable life, any sign of corruption, be it large or small, should be eliminated without leniency.

Although corruption is considered a moral offense by all societies, in Eritrea it is also a betrayal of our beloved martyrs and disrespects the nation forged by their blood. Therefore, under no circumstances should corruption and selfish, immoral and greedy elements be given the chance to take root and mushroom in our nation. Thus, law enforcement bodies and the means for surveillance at their disposal should be strengthened and constantly updated, because the only way we can build a nation where citizens reap the fruits of their sweat and blood is when the people and Government join forces in the fight against corruption as a priority task in honoring the trust of our martyrs.
