The Eritrean Communities celebrated Top Athletes from Eritrea in Frankfurt with an ocean of flags and flowers. From Eritrea 4 Top Athletes participated at DRESDNER KLEINWORT FRANKFURT MARATHON.
Daniel Woldu, born in 1989 was the youngest participant at the marathon. It was his first marathon in a european country.
He qualified for the Frankfurt Marathon since winning the competion with a record during Independence Celebrations in Asmara this year. Daniel Woldu finished with a 17th-place, Nebiat Habtemariam, 29 finished with a 13th-place, Gebru Sereke, 33 with a 14th-place and Tesfai Wedi Tekie, 29 with a 19th-place.
Wilfred Kigen became the first to clock a sub 2:08 time and the first man to achieve a hattrick in the history of Germany’s oldest city marathon: At the 26th edition of the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon the 32 year-old Keyan clocked 2:07:58 on Sunday.
Kigen, 34 from Kenja was joined at the finish line in the city's Festival Hall by his eight year old daughter, Patience, and it was that virtue which won her father the race. Here an exklusive Photo by Biddho.com.
Special attention we would like to give to Bisrat Kiefle, she is the main organisator of the Recreation with the Top-Athletes. Thanks to Bisrat Kiefle this annual Meet&Greet with top athletes from Eritrea has gained cult status.
For her great contributions to Eritrean Sport Bisrat Kiefle was honored during the event. Bisrat Kiefle who assist the Top-Athletes during their stay in Frankfurt told us that everything went smooth due to the engagement of voluntary committed Eritreans, the people's willingness to "do their bit" and "help get things moving" for that great event with the Top-Athletes and more.
Bisrat Kiefle, owner-manager of the International Travel Agency in Frankfurt (www.reisebuero-international.com) underscored the importance of medicine assistence for the athletes. For the Top-Athletes she could win Dr. Ralf Naujoks from Giessen, he is a sport medicine specialist and assisted the Eritrena Top-Athletes during the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon, voluntary.
Sports Community Can Make a Difference
Sport has the power to unite people around common projects that benefit the Eritrean communities. As witnessed in Frankfurt Fans just loved to tune in and see their favorite athletes. Perhaps, the relationship that the fans develop with their favorite athletes is the biggest reason why eritrean athletics has become as popular as it is today in diaspora. Top athletes from Eritrea are increasingly seen as national heroes. Their potential as ambassadors, as promoters of Eritrea is enormous and is not to understimate.
The popularity of athletics and the impact that sports can have on the development of values make it an ideal venue for promoting the capacity of Eritrea. Furthermore as a young state the high visibility and popularity of sports helps to underscore Eritrea´s growing national assets. It is for sure that patriotic applause of the mass is guaranted for every Eritrean Top-Athlete who run for the Nation and brings back triumph to his country.
The Eritrean society should continue their dedication of time and interest in sport, both on and off the field.
