The aspiration of every Eritrean citizen is to see his/her country become an economically and socially developed nation where justice prevails, as well as one that provides equal opportunities to all its citizens. Well aware of the fact that this aspiration can be turned into reality only through hard work and determination, and that it cannot be achieved overnight, every Eritrean citizen is striving hard to realize this long-term vision.
In life, every individual or community is presented with two choices: either to work for what they aspire for or be dependent on others for their livelihood. The first choice, at the beginning, is difficult and requires hard work and perseverance, but in the end leads to a rewarding life. The second choice, however, is easy and trouble-free at first, but then leads to perpetual poverty and ruin. The people and Government of Eritrea have opted to take the first route because they have learned from experience that no matter how long it may take or how bitter the journey might be, hard work and persistence always leads to success. Hence, the values and attitudes that have ensured us victory in the past are the basic principles we now adhere to in the nation building process, the success of which could be witnessed everywhere in the country. In the history of the world, the peoples and nations that have been able to accomplish worthwhile goals are the ones that endured temporary problems, while working tirelessly for lasting solutions. Thus, treading on the path of self-reliance, a choice that has proven effective both from the experience of the Eritrean people and others', the Eritrean people are now actively engaged in implementing strategic development programs so as to realize their long-term vision. Nations are primarily built on their internal resources and capabilities, and developing internal capabilities not only secures the equal participation of every citizen but also promotes strong work ethic and the attitude of self-reliance. For this reason, the Government of Eritrea is endeavoring to build a strong national economy that primarily relies on internal resources and capabilities. Thanks to these efforts, in advance, we have been able to catch more than a few glimpses of what the outcome of our present toil and perseverance would look like in the near future. And this represents our own choice of strategy towards economic emancipation! |

Letter dated Nov. 30'07 from the Legal Adviser to the President of Eritrea to the president of the UNSC
From `legal nonsense´ to `legal fiction´.

With effect from midnight tonight (30.11.2007), the demarcation of Ethio-Eritrean boundary will be as complete as any demarcated interstate boundary would be, if not better defined.
