At least 22 Somali soldiers are killed in a remote control explosion targeted at a military pick-up truck in Baidoa 250 km from Mogadishu.

Explosion happened in the capital and the south-central town of Baidoa hosting Somalia's parliament and biggest Ethiopian base on Saturday, Press TV correspondent reported from Mogadishu.

"At least 22 soldiers guarding the road to parliament including one Ethiopian soldier are killed while more that seven soldiers are seriously injured," added the correspondent.

The attacks came after two days of fighting in Mogadishu between Ethiopian-backed government forces and local insurgents.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that at least two civilians were also injured in the explosion.

Meanwhile in another clash in South Mogadishu at least four soldiers were killed and nine civilians were injured.

Although no accurate figures are available, thousands of Somali people are believed to have died in clashes between Ethiopian-backed government troops and insurgents since June.
