The Embassy of Eritrea in Washington, DC has read the news item posted by a US correspondent of Asian Tribune on 31 August 2007, in which it accuses Eritrea of “providing direct military assistance to Sri Lanka's Separatist Tamil Tiger rebels” According to the news report Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana is said to have “made the findings of his staff available for Congressional record on 15 December 2006”.
The Embassy of Eritrea has contacted the offices of Senator Lugar, who is on Travel to Russia. The Embassy has requested a meeting to discuss this issue and other relevant issues relating to Eritrea upon his return. W. Keith Luse, Professional Staff Member, Ranking Staff, East Asia and Pacific Affairs, author of the said report, was also contacted and the embassy will follow all legal venues available to redress this very serious and unwarranted accusation. The Embassy of Eritrea categorically rejects this accusation and is aware of the subtle misinformation campaigns that have been launched by some quarters in the US Administration.Embassy of Eritrea Washington, DC 31 August 2007 |
