Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, European Union election observer mission to Kenya (chief observer) Vs. Michael Ranneberger, U.S ambassador to Kenya
What is so disconcerting about the U.S ambassador's belated statement is the fact that it came out eight hours after the statement from the EU Election Observers declaring the Kenya election result for the December 2007 as "flawed". The press briefing by the EU Election Observers took place on 1st January 2008, 1pm. (Note: all time given is Kenya local time). >> EU Says Elections Were Flawed Watch also CNN The intention of this thread is not to make any judgment on what is going on in Kenya, rather it is to show the pattern U.S Department of State officials making a mess out of African people's aspiration to have a say in the affairs of their country while tarnishing the image of the United States of America. The Western press agencies from their comfort in Nairobi Kenya were reporting about the plight of Zimbabwe slam dwellers while ignoring Kibera, world's largest urban slam in Nairobi Kenya sitting right under their nose. You can not have a place like Kibera in the middle of your nation's capital and talk about democracy. Until I came across photo images ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, facts about Kibera) of Kibera slam, I used to think, Kirkos, Addis Ababa of the 1970s to be the worst urban habitat. Although, not much has changed for the better for Kirkos, there is no comparison between America's best friendly East African government's slams in their nation's capitals. For all practical purpose, Kibera seems to be hell on earth. The two gents public statements are in deed an eye opening and documented for eternity as a testimony to U.S Department of State diplomatic miscalculation. No amount of whitewash will succeed in removing this stain from the department's long list of diplomatic blunder in the African continent. In diplomatic language, It is widely believed that "doublespeak" is to pretend to say something else while in fact the message is to the contrary. If anything, what we get from ambassador Ranneberger's interview with KTN in Nairobi is that he miserably failed in the art of diplomatic doublespeak. I bet, he failed not because of ineptness on his part, but because he was put in an enviable position by his superiors at the State. May peace return to the people of Kenya with all its dividends!!! Regards, Note: I advice readers to first download the video clips to your local disk and the watch it. Due to the volume of hits to the server the streaming is very slow. By downloading the clips one can overcome the problem. The added advantage is also to be able to watch the clips again and again whenever needed without having to worry if the clip is going to stay on line or not. To download the two diplomat's press statements video links right click on each of the following two links [ Download Clip and Download Clip ] and then select "save target as" and the follow the rest of the process.
