This article was posted in 2003 in Biddho, during the formation and disintegration of Eritrean oppositions, under the auspices of "Axis of Belligerents" interesting within the context of terrorist attacks in Eritrea.
At that time the enemies of Eritrea were the " Axis of Belligerents" and their Eritrean mouthpiece was Hiruy Tedla Bairu who pronounced to the BBC that they receive their funding from Ethiopia and indicated that his organization would attack strategic targets such as television and radio centers in Eritrea. Consequently, they slaughtered a British geologist Timothy Nutt in Bisha to impede the development of gold exploration in the area.
Similarly, after the recent formation of 13 Eritrean oppositions in Ethiopia, the new Weyane mouthpiece Adhanom Gebremariam, in an interview with AFP, "threatened to resort to violence to topple President Issaias Afeworki's regime if Asmara continued to reject its demand for a transitional government". Consequently, we have witnessed the attack on civilian transportation that left two civilians dead and many more injured among them women and children.
Obviously, like many Eritreans who consider the oppositions as traitors and the enemy of the people, I am not impressed with the frequent formation and disintegration of their organizations as they are instrument of foreign powers and execute orders, for their political expediency of political influence and material gain in post regime change in Eritrea.
Now, the opposition, having deferred the election of their leaders in Ethiopia until March, I'm reserving judgment. Suspect my reading of it will not differ significantly from my previous views because for most Eritreans, the oppositions are, antediluvian politicians, directionless and disorganized, and they will dissipate in the history without achieving their political dreams.

Since the start of the border conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea we have seen the proliferation of organizations and groupings aimed at destabilizing the government of Eritrea.. The Alliance of Eritrean National Forces is one among those political groupings. It was formed upon the initial request of Sudanese Islamic Front lead by Hassan Al Turabi and the Weyane cliques. Eritrean Islamic Jihad and Eritrean Islamic Salvation Movement are, for instance, members of the Alliance of Eritrean National Forces that are engaged in terrorist act. The recent killing of British geologist Timothy Nutt is the case in point. In addition, Alliance's general secretary, Hiruy Tedla Bairu, recently confirmed to the BBC that they receive their funding from Sudan and indicated that his organization would attack strategic targets such as television and radio centers in Eritrea. Moreover, Sudan is in the United States list of countries sponsoring terrorism
It is important to note that Turabi is the architect of this Alliance as well as of the fundamentalist Islamic Front in Sudan that is spreading and exporting its religious ideology and dogma in neighboring countries, oppressing its southern Christian and animist population by denying their fundamental and inalienable human rights in multi-ethnic Sudanese society and engaged in the process of islamazation of the region. Turabi is a bitter man who has lost his son in the Jihad war and determined to continue the islamazation process in memoriam of him.
The Alliance of Eritrean National Forces is lead by the infamous Abdella Idris. He was the former ELF leader and a veteran of the Eritrean independence war. Abdella Idris, since the disintegration of his organization in Korokon in 1981, has felt, as Dante would say ?midway in his life?s journey? the most bitter experience against EPLF and Eritrean people.
Since then Abdella Idris was wondering around the Arabian Peninsula, in vain, in search of his fundamentalism ideological support. However, Abdella Idris was not the only one suffering from the precipitous descent of his power, there was a profound sorrow, lamentation and struggle for the preponderance of power among other insignificant former ELF leaders.
It is in this evil scenario of corruption and moral decadence that Abdella Idris assassinated some prominent veterans of Eritrean independence struggle, betrayed his own followers in the arid mountains of Gramaika, Korokon, and Tahday and it was in this scenario of burning feeling and tempest of political power struggle that seemed to him a hopeless expectation of a better Eritrea and humanity.
From this extraordinary period of fear, negative vision and loss of power Abdella Idris disappeared, for a long time, from the political scene of Eritrea. The interminable voyage to the Arabian Peninsula and the conversion to new Islamic fundamentalism ideology of Turabi was a spiritual refuge to Abdella, it was a comfort from the demise of power he had experienced in Korokon in 1981 and it was the unfailing promise to the future prominence.
The Eritrean National Alliance is, from the beginning, an incongruous alliance doomed to fail. The alliance claims to represent the Eritrean people, and yet it has no public support except that of its leaders. Again the Alliance claims to be a coalition of various organization with different political objectives, nevertheless, the fundamental political ideology of Islamic Front is accepted a bona fide by the oppositions. Furthermore, the oppositions live in the illusion of being free and masters of themselves, they are, however, unconscious victims of a superior force that ineluctably will crush and destroy them.
Moreover, the Eritrean Alliance claims that it will come into power, with the support of Sudanese Islamic Front and Weyane cliques, by overthrowing the legitimate government of Eritrea that enjoys an overwhelming support both at home and abroad, however, this belief is only one of unforgettable invention of the oppositions? fantasy. It is also a prototype of the opposition that looks, once it has lost its chance to become a prominent player in the Eritrean political struggle, to acquire the ancient social and political prestige. I
Beyond the formation of this new alliance group and beyond the external conflicts with Ethiopia, if we observe closely, at Eritrea?s ideological, social and political level, the Eritrean government is a protagonist of one unrepeatable experience. Eritrea, because of its social formation, is a meeting place of various nationalities of different origins and traditions that necessarily must coexist and build a nation from nothing. As a gigantic laboratory, the Eritrean government has applied principles, ideas and institutions conducive to living harmoniously. Notwithstanding its archaic economic structure and years of colonial rule, Eritrea, under the scrupulous leadership of Issayas Afeworki, has seen tremendous political and economic transformation.
The government of Eritrea and its leaders represent the truth revealed. They are the light that illuminates the Eritrean political scene and consequently the Eritrean people. The government of Eritrea and its leaders brought out the Eritrean people from their economic and social backwardness and precariousness into a higher elevation of human standard.
The government of Eritrea and its leaders, therefore, if they are viewed in their conceptual political and economic essence, confirm the political highness of the leaders and witness in them the continues blending of popular government and democratic participation and reveal in the form of governing method one of the highest moral teaching and the acme of perfection that elevates humanity towards a civilized state.
The final and practical reason for Issayas Afeworki and his government is the search for the knowledge and political participation of all its multiethnic population as a supreme good for the State of Eritrea. And the last 12 years have been a testament to their exemplary leadership. A leadership of facts and a leadership that is accountable to its population, which is admirable leadership created from within the Eritrean populace, and appears in the eyes of the Eritrean people as legitimate and representative. This is the general significance and definition that can be easily deduced from the current Eritrean situation. This is an elementary concept that requires no knowledge of political science to understand the popularity and the support the Eritrean government enjoys.
