There used to be a time, not too long ago, when the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, would threaten to pull out the peacekeepers which are standing on the borders of Eritrea and its southern neighbour, if things did not go according to the wishes of his friend the woyane leader, which was to have a dialogue before demarcating the borders according to the ruling that had been handed down by the EEBC.
He always found it necessary to remind us that it was costing the United Nations and that peacekeepers, being scarce, would be needed elsewhere around the world. He Had even started to gradually scale down their number which today is much less than it was originally If that is not blackmail, I do not know what else is!
Now that the demarcation issue has been solved and completed, even without the help of either the woyane or their handlers the witnesses and guarantors of the peace agreement; and now that it is all over, albeit on paper only, nevertheless termed as ‘virtual demarcation’ which is perfectly legal and internationally customary and acceptable, as we have been told, the Security Council, despite all this, still voted for the peacekeepers to stay for another six more months, although Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had asked for only one month. Why? Because they are protesting and defying a request which was made by the Eritrean President Isaias Afworki, which indicated that, because of the above mentioned virtual demarcation, the services of the peacekeepers were no longer required or needed and therefore to withdraw their troops, which they, (the security council) considered to be an affront to their powerful stance in the United Nations, if not in the world.
They want to do it in their own terms and in their own time, with the meager excuse that they want the peacekeepers to stand between any threat of resumed hostilities between the two countries, which, if they had cared enough about, they could easily have solved had they wanted to, but are instead fanning rumours and encouraging skirmishes and terrorism to make it look as though there was the possibility of a renewed war, and therefore producing justification for the presence of their peacekeepers for a further six more months in the area. In other words they are claiming to know what is good for Eritrea, more than the Eritreans or their leaders do, by pushing the peacekeepers presence down our throats, whether we want it or not.
This immature attitude makes them look like a bunch of babies who are accustomed to always have their own way whether right or wrong. They are accustomed to dictating to the rest of the world but they have never had the world answer back to them and tell them to get lost. So, at the UN meeting, the reason they gave for voting to renew the stay of the peacekeepers for another six months was that, acquiescing to the Eritrean demands would, according to anonymous council diplomats, amount to giving in to blackmail.
Where is the blackmail here? Do nations not have to first consent to the presence of peacekeepers in their territory, and does their stay not have to be approved and welcomed by the people? And if a country says “thank you very much we have had had enough of your protection, and so you can now leave with our blessings” should they not just leave quietly without feeling ejected? Or has the new law and order been changed into forcing troops on nations whether they are welcome or not? It is truly scary, and at the same time sad, that these are the type of people running and leading the United Nations. People who have forgotten what they were there for in the first place, which was to bring peace and harmony to the world as a whole under the terms of law and order, instead of pitting nations against nations, and flexing their muscles to show their power. This is what, I would definitely call an evil empire.
If these people really cared about avoiding any war, they would follow the laws of the United Nations and make sure that it is implemented through the directives given in the UN charter, and by so doing, make sure that all nations, without exception, would respect the laws and act accordingly. But here we have the woyane occupying sovereign and undisputed Eritrean land, as a ransom in exchange for a dialogue,- talk about blackmail! And instead of being told to return it so that peace may reign in the area, we are given to understand that, because they are allies of the American government, especially in the war against terrorism, whatever that means, the woyane are immune to any international law, and if they break it, the security council has no power to do anything because the Americans will bail them out through their veto, as they often do with Israel. So instead of solving the crux of the problem, which, if left untended to, might eventually inevitably bring about hostilities, they would rather just continue keeping their inept peacekeepers there indefinitely just as a false symbol of their concern. Or, perhaps they are just buying time for the woyane, for when they will be ready to attack again for no other reason then to act as a surrogate for their masters, as they are doing in Somalia.
Whatever the case, Eritrea will survive, and with truth and justice by her side, will in the end always prevail
