In the past few years, the UN has been wringing its hands and saying that it can not enforce the agreement which it was a guarantor of. Not only that,it has failed in criticising the Ethiopian government for its refusal to implement the agreement.

The UN has never and will never be a friend of Eritrea. In the past it has stood by idly when the Ethiopian government decided to scrap the Federation, an act that only the UN was authorised to do. Not a word of protest was made by the UN when the Ethiopian army rolled into Eritrea and declared 'Unification'.
 
Recently the UN has been actively engaged in trying to tip the balance of power towards Ethiopia. With all the 'limitations' imposed on the mission, the UN still persists in remaining in Eritrea. When its been told that its no longer welcome it has imposed itself on Eritrea.
 
The question we need to ask is, why is the UN so determined to remain in Eritrea? It can not be for the sake of peace. If it were, there would have been a lot of effort in implementing the Border Commission's ruling.
 
Another question that needs to be asked is, why has our government taken the steps it has. Why were the helicopter flights in the TSZ banned? Is it because our government wants to move troops into the zone or is there another reason?
 
Despite the helicopter flight bans, the UN is still around. I would have thought that if its work was being impaired it would have packed its bags and left. The real reason for the banning of flights is that the UN was allowing Ethiopian military personnel to spy on Eritrean military installations under the guise of monitoring the TSZ. UN helicopters were picking up Ethiopians from Adigrat and flying them over Eritrea.
 
While the UN was entrusted with monitoring the TSZ, what it was actually doing was trafficking people across the border. Of the recent fuel ban, the UN personnel were engaged in selling their fuel illegally for a considerable profit.
 
UNMEE is not in Eritrea to safe guard the peace, but to undermine Eritrea. The sooner UNMEE leaves the better. The UN is a failed organisation whose sole purpose is to provide employment for a chosen few.
