Deputy speaker Farah Maalim has accused the west, of fanning conflict in the horn of Africa region in order to exploit resources.

Maalim singled out the US saying that the super power has never played a significant role in brokering peace in war torn countries like Sudan and Somalia.

Maalim hailed Eritrea's fight against the oppression of their former invaders, the Ethiopians adding that the conflict in the horn of Africa has been supported by the west for their own selfish ends.

He said America has been waging proxy wars against African countries under the guise of fighting terrorism.

The stinging criticism by the deputy speaker came up on Sunday at an event to mark the Saint John the Baptist and commencement of the armed struggle of the people of Eritrea.

The event was also attended by Eritrean Ambassador to Kenya and graced by COTU boss Francis Atwoli who was the chief guest in Nairobi.

Cotu boss Francis Atwoli noted that Eritrea was a peaceful country that tolerated religious diversity and urged the same to be replicated here in Kenya.

Atwoli also defended Sudan's President Omar el Bashir over his indictment by the International criminal court over alleged genocide in Darfur.
