Asmara must have felt proud during the last days for hosting the Somali Congress for Liberation and Reconstitution by welcoming peace seeker Somali delegates from all over the world, including Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys.
Eritrea is putting in place thereby a new dimension in the world of conflict resolution by taking the popular African phrase African problems must have African solutions literally. Recently, the world has witnessed the peace accord reached between the government of the Sudan and East Sudan that was facilitated by the government of Eritrea; this has been done without any hidden agenda.
The Eritrean government along with its people must be applauded, even by US administration, for this holy deed, which should be taken as a model for genuine peace in war torn Africa. But instead of this, Mrs. Jandye Frezier, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, is blaming the Eritrean government for harbouring terrorists. To defame Eritrea with baseless accusations such as democracy, human rights, sponsoring terorrism etc. will only lead to unnecessary confrontations. It is time to realize for the US administration that it is missing the opportunity to work with the world's most anti terror nation. Mrs Frezier must try to solve the differences, if there are any, diplomatically not with force.
Again, it is really unfortunate that Mrs Frezier is still unable to grasp the importance of the Eritrean government against the war on terror. The world knows well that since its birth before years, Eritrea was the first to fight terror in this region. It is important to recall that at that time Bin Laden was personally in the Sudan and was leading the terrorist acts against this wonderful and peace loving nation, Eritrea.
The world is gradually changing for good with regard to combating injustice (like in Iraq for example) and when will US administrations learn from their mistakes; what is wrong with the people of this beautiful continent, who were demonstrating against the war in Vietnam.
In order to ensure peaceful coexistence in this region, the following two important points should be fulfilled. - Ethiopia must accept the the Border decision and should allow it to be demarcated without any ifs and buts.
- The US administration must see Asmara as a center of Peace & Dialogue and as such encourage all the peace initiatives (Sudan & Somalia) taken by the Government of Eritrea for its own advantages, because only a peaceful Horn of Africa will never be a haven for terrorists.
Whatever the threat from the US administration is, Eritrea must remain a place for dialogue and understanding. At the end, truth will always prevail.
May GOD/ALLAH bless Eritrea and Eritreans Victory to the Masses (Awet Nhafash)
